Thailand has been ranked 33rd in a global survey of 156 countries according to how happy their citizens are, according to report by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network.
The country at the coveted top spot was Denmark, while the unfortunate citizens of Burundi came in last place. Since the last such survey, Thailand moved up by one place, and even though it’s the 33rd happiest country, it’s the second happiest in the ASEAN region. Thailand was pipped to the post by Singapore which was ranked 22 in the world and the first in ASEAN.
The list of world’s happiest countries was revealed in the fourth World Happiness Report that was released on Wednesday, and was put together by an international panel of scientists including economists, psychologist and health experts convened by the United Nations.
The report unsurprisingly found that a major cause of unhappiness was inequality. Denmark came top in the first report in 2012, and in 2013, but was beaten to first place by Switzerland last year.
