China Hushen 300 index futures close higher Tuesday
BEIJING, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) — China’s Hushen 300 index futures closed higher on Tuesday, with the contract for November 2020 up 1.02 percent to finish at 4,756.8 points. The December 2020 contract gained 1.01 percent to close at 4,743 points. The March 2021 contract was up 1.1 percent to finish at 4,703 points. The June 2021 contract went up 1.08 percent to finish at 4,650.4 points. The stock-index contracts, agreements to buy or sell the Hushen 300 Index at a preset value on an agreed date, are designed to allow investors to bet on and profit from either gains or declines in the market. The index futures were launched at the China Financial Futures Exchange (CFFEX) and started trading from April 16, 2010. The CFFEX has set the base value for all the contracts at 3,399 points.

Government subsidies don’t boost Chinese firms’ productivity
China’s industrial subsidies have caused considerable controversy both internationally and domestically. Trading partners have accused China of unfairly favouring its indigenous firms with subsidies, leaving foreign companies at a disadvantage in the race to lead the technologies of the future.
Governments around the world regularly spend an enormous amount of money subsidising businesses. But few spend like China. A 2022 report suggests that China spends 1.7–5 per cent of its GDP on industrial policies, more than most countries.
